Sweden
Sweden has a long royal tradition, but the current royal family descends from the French Marshall Jean Bernadotte, who was elected heir to the throne by the Swedish people in the early 19th century.
The Swedish monarchs once ruled most of Scandinavia, their descendants still have close ties to the other Scandinavian monarchies. The Swedish monarch has lost most of his powers and is an example of a monarch with nothing but a ceremonial role in Swedish society.
