Karl I (1608-1627)
Son of Georg Hartmann. Born 30 July 1569, raised to the hereditary rank of Prince of the Holy Roman Empire 1608, died 12 February 1627.

Karl Eusebius (1627-1684)
Son of Karl I. Born 12 September 1611, became reigning prince 12 February 1627, died 5 April 1684.

Johann Adam Andreas (Hans-Adam I) (1684-1712)
Son of Karl Eusebius. Born 1657, became reigning prince 5 April 1684, became Lord of Schellenberg 1699 and Count of Vaduz 1712, died 6 June 1712.

Joseph Wenzel (1712-1718 and 1748-1772)
Nephew of Anton Florian. Born 9 August 1696, became reigning prince 1712-1718, married Princess Anna Maria of Liechtenstein (daughter of Anton Florian) (11 September 1699-20 January 1753) 19 April 1718, acted as regent for Johann Nepomuk Karl 1732-1745, became reigning prince again 1748, died 10 February 1772.

Anton Florian (1718-1721)
Great-nephew of Karl I. Born 28 May 1656, became reigning prince 1718, acquired Schellenberg and Vaduz from Joseph Wenzel and became Prince of Liechtenstein in 1719 after Emperor Charles VI unified the two domains and made them an Imperial Principality, died 11 October 1721. He was the first Prince of Liechtenstein (as opposed to a Prince of the Holy Roman Empire).

Joseph Johann Adam (1721-1732)
Son of Anton Florian. Born 25 May 1690, became reigning prince 11 October 1721, died 16 December 1732.

Johann Nepomuk Karl (1732-1748)
Son of Joseph Johann Adam. Born 6 July 1724, became reigning prince 16 December 1732 (aged eight) with Joseph Wenzel acting as regent until 1745, died 22 December 1748.

Franz Joseph I (1772-1781)
Nephew of Joseph Wenzel. Born 19 November 1726, married Countess Marie Leopoldine von Sternberg (11 December 1733-27 June 1809) 6 July 1750, became reigning prince 10 February 1772, died 18 August 1781.

Alois I (1781-1805)
Son of Franz Joseph I. Born 14 May 1759, became reigning prince 18 August 1781, married Countess Karoline von Manderscheid-Blankenheim (14 November 1768-11 June 1831) 15 November 1783, died 24 March 1805.

Johann I Joseph (1805-1836)
Son of Franz Joseph I and younger brother of Alois I. Born 27 June 1760, married Landgravine Josepha Sophie zu Fürstenberg-Weitra (21 June 1776-23 February 1848) 12 April 1792, became reigning prince 24 March 1805, died 20 April 1836.

Alois II (1836-1858)
Son of Johann I Joseph. Born 25 May 1796, married Countess Franziska Kinsky von Wchinitz und Tettau (8 August 1813-5 February 1881) 8 August 1831, became reigning prince 20 April 1836, died 12 November 1858.

Johann II (1858-1929)
Son of Alois II. Born 5 October 1840, became reigning prince 12 November 1858, died 11 February 1929.

Franz I (1929-1938)
Son of Alois II and younger brother of Johann II. Born 28 August 1853, became reigning prince 11 February 1929, married Elisabeth von Gutmann (8 January 1875-28 September 1947) 22 July 1929, died 25 July 1938.

Franz Joseph II (1938-1989)
Great-great-grandson of Johann I Joseph. Born 16 August 1906, became reigning prince 25 July 1938, married Countess Georgine von Wilczek (24 October 1921-18 October 1989) 7 March 1943, died 13 November 1989.

Hans-Adam II (1989-present)
Son of Franz Joseph II. Born 14 February 1945, married Countess Marie Kinsky von Wchinitz und Tettau (born 14 April 1940) 30 July 1967, reigning prince since 13 November 1989.

Francis II of France was born on 19 January 1544, 10 years after his parents' wedding. His mother, Catherine de' Medici, had no power at her husband's court, having to defer to his mistress, Diane de Poitiers. Henri II died when Francis was only 15, and Catherine finally had the power she craved as regent. Francis, who was married to Mary Queen of Scots, lived for only a year as king, dying in 1560.

Charlotte of Belgium, daughter of Leopold I (Queen Victoria's maternal uncle), married Maximilian of Austria in 1857; he was offered the Mexican throne in 1864, at which Charlotte became Empress Carlota. By 1867 Maximilian had been executed by revolutionary forces and Carlota was having mental problems. She spent the rest of her life in Europe, dying in Belgium on 19 January 1927.

Princess Margriet of The Netherlands, younger sister of Queen Beatrix, was born on 19 January 1943 in Ottawa, Canada, where her parents had lived since the Nazi occupation of The Netherlands in 1940. In order that she should hold Dutch citizenship only, not Canadian citizenship, the Canadian government declared the maternity ward where she was born to be temporarily extraterritorial.
